One of the things we've always valued at Accompanist is remaining neutral when it comes to the shows we feature. Our members work on every imaginable kind of production, from beloved classics and new musicals to experimental works, operas, cabarets, and everything in between. Our role has never been to endorse one artistic point of view over another, but to celebrate the people creating live theatre.

That said, every so often a new work comes along that reminds us why so many of us fell in love with musical theatre in the first place. When the Accompanist team watched Broadside, the conversation afterward wasn't about politics or history. It was about craftsmanship. It felt like the kind of original musical that could appeal to almost anyone who loves the tradition of Broadway storytelling: memorable melodies, rich harmonies, compelling characters, humor, heart, and an ensemble score that gives performers plenty to sink their teeth into.

While its historical setting provides the backdrop, the show's real focus is on the people behind the headlines, the printers, poets, soldiers, families, and ordinary citizens trying to make sense of extraordinary times.

As accompanists, we spend our careers helping bring new music to life. We know how difficult it is to develop an original musical from the ground up, and we also know how important it is to champion new voices when they create work with genuine artistic ambition.
